Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most popular card games in existence since players can use tactics and strategy to help them improve their odds against the house. Online Blackjack is no different, and there are many different variants that you can play, including multi-hand, multiplayer and live dealers to name but a few.

Blackjack is also one of the simplest card games to start to learn how to play, but with much to master before you can become an expert player. Each hand starts with 2 cards being dealt to each player, who in turn are able to opt for an additional card, or stick with what they have. The highest hand that doesn’t exceed 21 wins. Easy. It gets difficult though when you’re trying to work out whether or not to draw another card.

There are many strategies that have been developed to tell you what to do as a player with a given hand, but these are only a guide and are only as good as the player that uses them. (For more, you should check out our Blackjack Online Casino Guides.)

The famous casino-beating trick of counting cards relates to the game of Blackjack. In theory, if you know how many decks are in play, and can keep track of what cards have already been dealt, you should have a much better idea of the probabilities of what cards will come up next.

In reality, this is an incredibly difficult task, and is near on impossible without taking notes or using a computer (not allowed!). Simplified systems have been developed, but even these require a lot of practice before you are in a position to make some money – there was a team from MIT in the ‘80s and ‘90s that managed to succeed, but they ended up getting banned from many casinos (see Wikipedia article – MIT Blackjack Team).
