The Zombies slot game from Net Entertainment isn’t one for you if you’re squeamish! Although the graphics are cartoon like, they are nonetheless rather gruesome (well, what else would you expect from a slot called Zombies!?!)
The game itself sits in the familiar Net Entertainment framework – if you’re not familiar with it, the spin button is located in the centre of the ‘control panel’, with an excellent autoplay feature that has excellent controls that enables you to set a whole bunch of useful triggers that will stop the autospins (for example, if a single win exceeds XYZ). As always the game is ‘instant play’ only, and the graphics are crisp and the game plays very smoothly.
Zombies has 5 reels together with 20 paylines that can be activated. The symbols start out with the higher end ‘playing card’ values, with 10 up to Ace written in what looks like smeared blue blood. The other game symbols are various zombie related paraphernalia from bloodied weapons to Braaaiiinsss!
There are a bunch of special features to be found in the Zombies Slot
Scatter – A biohazard container acts as the scatter symbol, 3 or more of which appearing in the central 3 reels of the board triggers the free spins game (see below)
Wild – The basic wild symbol (simply the word ‘wild’) appears on all reels apart from the middle one and can substitute for all symbols apart from the scatter.
Stacked Wild – This is a 3-tile wild symbol that only appears on the central reel (differs from an expanding wild as there’s no guarantee that it’ll cover all the symbols on the reel when it appears). If a ‘nudge’ up or down by one symbol will complete a win, then the game will do that, but only if the symbol has made a partial appearance. It is deactivated during the free spins round.
Random Wild – These can appear up to a maximum of 6, seemingly at random (would never have guessed it from the name :p ) on any spin that hasn’t activated the free spins feature or had a stacked wild appear. Two zombies appear in the screen, and as you shoot them (not in your control) the bullet holes are where the new wilds are placed on the board). It is deactivated during the free spins round.
Free Spins – As mentioned earlier in the review, 3 or more scatter symbols activate the free spins round. Here you’ll be awarded up to 5 free spins, with an increasing multiplier applied to each spin – this starts at 1x and increases to a massive 10x multiplier with the last spin. In between each spin, you’ll shoot at approaching zombies, receiving a coin bonus for each one shot.
As always, it’s difficult to say for certain from a limited amount of play of a slot how it plays, as you might be having a lucky (or unlucky) day, however, the Zombies slot feels like it doesn’t pay out too often. We played for quite a while without any massive wins, and generally the amounts were relatively low. If the stacked wild arrives with all 3 symbols, it can connect a large number of paylines which does result in a decent payout.
Free spins has the potential for a large win, with several increasing multipliers, but for us, it didn’t activate very often, and wasn’t a big payer when it did.
Doesn’t really matter though – if you want to play for a long time, but don’t have the funds – you can set the coins pretty low and you’ll get quite a lot of entertainment out of it, though you’re unlikely to make any big wins that way.
Zombies is a well-executed slot from Net Entertainment (as usual!). It has crisp but gruesome graphics and certainly gets the horror feel of the genre down. Worth a try!
