Grosvenor Casino

Grosvenor Casino is part of the Rank Group which operate a large number of real (as opposed to electronic – see video) casinos located all around the UK as well as the well-known bookie – Blue Square. This review will only concentrate on the online aspect of Grosvenor Casino, and will leave you to discover your local Grosvenor Casino for yourself!

(Update: Grosvenor re-branded from G Casino – references to G Casino have been updated throughout this review to reflect that)

Licencing & Security

Grosvenor Casino is licenced by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, placing it within the UK governments list of approved jurisdictions, but more importantly, they make their licencees put the expected Return to Player percentages up for each game. Alderney are quite open about their procedures, and if you take a look at their site, you can see that as well as setting out rules and regulations to govern the conduct of casinos, the licencing process also includes testing of the software to ensure that it is fair.

Security wise, they use 128 bit encryption, which is the same as you’ll find when you’re doing your online banking. From a comfort point of view, being part of the Rank Group (listed on the stock market and runs Mecca Bingo too!) gives you confidence that this is a solid company that aren’t just going to disappear into the sunset with your hard earned cash.

There are a number of different types of software in use on the site. First up, the downloadable casino uses Playtech. If you’ve not come across Playtech yet, they’ve got some great games and have recently been releasing a lot of new games with big name franchises (for example Rocky, King Kong and Pink Panther just to name a few).

For their instant play games, Grosvenor Casino use IGT (formerly Wagerworks), who are famous for making the electronic slots and gaming machines that are used in Vegas (they do the machines for Harrah’s) and this means you can play some of your favourite slots from Sin City including Cleopatra and Wolf Run.

Additional Services

There are a number of Grosvenor Casinos located around the UK, though you are not automatically a member there; however there are still some crossover events from the online casino. These include tournaments like the GUKPT (Grosvenor UK Poker Tour) which ends up with the final rounds being played in the actual casinos.

This brings us nicely to the other services that Grosvenor Casino’s site has to offer. As we’ve just mentioned, they have a poker client and there’s even virtual sports that you can have a punt on (see the ‘Games’ tab on their website).

As one might expect from an operator that has their own casinos, Grosvenor does have a Live Dealer Casino, although this doesn’t seem to be broadcast from their real world casinos.

Grosvenor also has an excellent mobile offering, with a really large selection of games to play in either download, or mobile optimised instant play games. There’s also an app for iPhone and Android smartphones that’ll help you find the nearest actual casino, and has some other goodies like a blackjack strategy chart and a poker odds calculator.

Banking options are quite limited compared to some other casinos, being limited to: Credit/Debit cards, NETeller, Moneybookers and UKash, but most of us will have access to these, so it’s not a big deal. There is also a withdrawal limit of £15,000 per transaction which can be waived if you get in touch with customer support (we should all be lucky enough to have such a problem!) Payments will take a couple of days to clear though.

Help is available 24/7 through standard options – email, free-phone numbers, or post.

Nice website, though it can be a little difficult to find some things – for example, you can quite easily miss that there is a downloadable casino client. That said, if you’re just logging on to play, it’s very straightforward to find the instant play games or slots that you’re looking for. Also, the combination of Playtech and Wagerworks is not one seen all that often, giving you a wide selection of games to play on. Finally, being part of the Rank Group gives a sense of comfort and security in that it is a well-known and reputable company/brand and not just another fly-by-night operation. Definitely one to try – give it a go today 🙂
