Icy Wonders is one of 3 in the current range of “Wonders” slots from Net Entertainment. These are a progressive type jackpot, winnable from any of these 3 slots (the others being Geisha Wonders and Tiki Wonders). As you may have guessed from the name, Icy Wonders is themed around an icy theme, more specifically, around the North Pole.
Icy Wonders will be pretty familiar to regular players of slots with 5 reels and up to 30 paylines to use. Though some of the controls are slightly different to the other software platforms, they are still present, and in some respects, easier to use than those that can be found on some of the more established software companies’ slot games.
My particular favourite feature is not one that would be difficult for others to implement, and is common across the Net Entertainment slots (at least at Unibet where I’ve been playing them), is that your actual balance and the amount per spin are shown alongside the traditional “coins” balance that many slots use, making it much easier to keep track of how much money you’re playing with.
The auto-spin feature is pretty handy too, with the advance settings enabling you to tell the auto spins to stop whenever certain events that you prescribe occur – say for example, the free spins feature is activated or your account balance has fallen by a specified amount – also, you can only select from a predetermined number of spins (rather than being able to input how many that you want directly), though these do go up to 1,000 spins!
The above features are also present on other Net Entertainment slots, so we’ll get back to Icy Wonders. The graphics are well rendered and quick to run & load, especially considering that this is an instant play game (i.e. one that you play in your internet browser without having to download any additional software).
The symbols in use are cartoons of various arctic animals and explorers, with the highest paying symbol being a polar bear (seemingly very happy with himself for having caught a fish).
3 or more female Inuit scatter symbols anywhere on the board activates the free spins feature. With an additional 10 free spins being added for each additional symbol, up to a maximum of 30 free spins awarded to 5 scatter symbols or more.
The bonus round is activated by 3 “penguin in a cap” symbols appearing on a payline. This takes you to a usual suspects style line up of penguins, each of whom is hiding a fish. You can click on the penguins to make them reveal their fish – which has a coin value assigned to it. This continues until you unveil a fish that has already been eaten, where upon, the bonus round ends and the remaining unselected penguins reveal the value that they held.
I like this slot – it certainly competes with some of the download slots that I’ve seen in terms of loading and running speed – indeed, it’s quite easy to forget that it’s an instant play slot. The jackpot is a lot lower than the progressives that you can get on some of the more established platforms, but this should improve as it becomes more popular, something that will be likely if they continue to develop slots like this one – definitely worth a go.
