What with Wimbledon on, we thought that we’d review Playtech’s Tennis Stars slot. As you might have been able to guess from the imaginative title, this slot has a zombie theme – wait what? Just messing – it’s a tennis theme (who could have guessed?).
So what do you get? Well, for starters, 5 reels and a massive 40 paylines and betting goes from 0.01 per line, up to 0.10. The symbols are based on various tennis items such as balls, trainers, players and a trophy, with the remaining symbols being playing cards from 10 to Ace.
The trophy is the wild symbol for this game, but as well as substituting for all of the others (apart from the scatter), if you get 3 appearing, with one on each of reels 2,3 & 4, it will award you 10x the bet for that particular spin, plus trigger 15 free spins with a x3 multiplier attached to each.
Tennis Stars also has a bonus game – the ‘Championship Bonus’, activated by 3 or more of the tennis racquet scatter symbols appearing anywhere within the playing area. The game itself takes the format of a tennis match, though unfortunately it’s still a slot and not a console, so playing is limited to making some choices – i.e. mens/womens, flat serve or slice. There is some nice animation of the players as they play the game, but that’s not the important bit.
The bonus game can give some pretty good wins, even on a relatively bad result, and this is down to the points system. Depending on the result of the match, your original triggering bet will be multiplied by at least a factor of 10 if your opponent gets 30 points in the match, x15 if they get 15 points, and by a massive x50 if they get none. On top of that, you can get up to an additional x5 multiplier – an additional x1 for each Ace scored by you in the match.
When we played this slot, the bonus activated quite regularly and dished out quite a few good wins – maybe we should buy a lottery ticket tonight! However, the free spins didn’t activate once, but we can’t complain about that. Obviously it won’t be dishing out bonus wins all the time, otherwise we’d be playing this all day, but this slot didn’t feel like it was draining our wallets – Definitely worth a spin or two!
